1 John 5:9-13
If we receive human testimony, the testimony of God is greater; for this is the testimony of God that he has testified to his Son. Those who believe in the Son of God have the testimony in their hearts. Those who do not believe in God have made him a liar by not believing in the testimony that God has given concerning his Son. And this is the testimony: God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God; so that you may know that you have eternal life.
Food for Thought:
When I read this passage of Scripture, I think about giving one’s testimony. I grew up in the United Methodist Church and I have never been that comfortable giving my testimony. Proclaiming all the ways that God has worked in my life seems like such a Baptist thing to do. But I understand the importance of telling stories — stories about how God has worked in my life — the way in which God’s presence has transformed my life for the better, I can do that. Think of the ways in which God has worked in your life. How do you see God at work in your life right now?
Gracious God, in the resurrection of your Son Jesus Christ, you have given us eternal life and glorified your name in the entire world. Refresh our souls with the living streams of your truth, that in our unity your joy may be complete. In your precious name we pray, Amen.
