Wisdom has built her house,
she has hewn her seven pillars.
She has slaughtered her animals, she has mixed her wine,
she has also set her table.
She has sent out her servant-girls, she calls
from the highest places in the town,
“You that are simple, turn in here!”
To those without sense she says,
“Come, eat of my bread
and drink of the wine I have mixed.
Lay aside immaturity, and live,
and walk in the way of insight.”
Food For Thought:
The line that stands out to me is: “Lay aside immaturity, and live, and walk in the way of insight.” As a Christian, we have to lay aside our childish ways and take on a mature attitude. We must be kind. We must not pout. We must not whine. We must think of others before ourselves. Think of an area in your spiritual life that is immature. What could you do to mature in that area? How could you develop that area to live more in line with what God envisions for your life?
God, whose love streams like fresh water
into the deserts of our hearts,
you turn us from greed and partiality
to healing and justice.
Make us companions of those who long for your deliverance,
and give us safe passage at the last into the land of your shalom. Amen.
