Today’s Scripture:

Psalm 138

I give you thanks, O Lord, with my whole heart; before the gods I sing your praise;

I bow down toward your holy temple and give thanks to your name for your steadfast love and your faithfulness; for you have exalted your name and your word above everything.

On the day I called, you answered me; you increased my strength of soul.

All the kings of the earth shall praise you, O Lord, for they have heard the words of your mouth.

They shall sing of the ways of the Lord, for great is the glory of the Lord.

For though the Lord is high, he regards the lowly; but the haughty he perceives from far away.

Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you preserve me against the wrath of my enemies; you stretch out your hand, and your right hand delivers me.

The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever.  Do not forsake the work of your hands.

Food For Thought:

When I read this passage of Scripture, I think of an attitude of gratitude.  I think of the importance of being thankful for the things that we have.  Several years ago read a wonderful book called Simple Abundance: A Daybook of Comfort and Joy by Sarah Ban Breathnach.  In this book, Breathnach encourages people to be thankful for the small things.  This attitude of gratitude will seep into the other parts of your life and make you more content in what you have.  Write down 50 things that you are thankful for today.  It can be small things  my dog.  It can be big things ── my health or my family.

Father in heaven, in your goodness you pour out on your people all that they need and satisfy those who persist in prayer.  Make us bold in asking, thankful in receiving, tireless in seeking, and joyful in finding, that we may always proclaim your coming kingdom and do your will on earth as in heaven.  In your sacred name we pray, Amen.
