Behaving as God’s Children
“But I say to you who are willing to hear: Love your enemies. Do good to those who hate you. Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who mistreat you. If someone slaps you on the cheek, offer the other one as well. If someone takes your coat, don’t withhold your shirt either. Give to everyone who asks and don’t demand your things back from those who take them. Treat people in the same way that you want them to treat you.
Questions to Ponder:
When is the last time you remembered this passage when someone did you wrong? When you try to bless those who curse you, or pray for those who mistreat you, what happens? How do you handle it when you do these things and others don’t return the favor?
Prayer for Today:
Dear God, thank you for teaching us so specifically what it means to behave as God’s children. Please help me to remember to follow these tenets the next time someone mistreats me or takes more from me than I want to give. Show me how to behave as your child, even when my emotions make me want to do otherwise, and even when people don’t treat me in the same way. Amen.
