Jesus went up on a mountain and called those he wanted, and they came to him. He appointed twelve and called them apostles. He appointed them to be with him, to be sent out to preach, and to have authority to throw out demons. He appointed twelve: Peter, a name he gave Simon; James and John, Zebedee’s sons, whom he nicknamed Boanerges, which means “sons of Thunder”; and Andrew; Philip; Bartholomew; Matthew; Thomas; James, Alphaeus’ son; Thaddaeus; Simon the Cananaean; and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed Jesus.
Questions to Ponder:
Do you give much thought to the divine wisdom of Jesus? When you read the scripture “Jesus went up on a mountain and called those he wanted, and they came to him,” do you think about what Jesus knew about the hearts of each of these twelve men? Do you find comfort in know that Jesus can see into your heart, as well?
Prayer for Today:
Loving and all-knowing God, You see my heart and you know my frailty, my jealousy and my struggles. Help me to fill that heart with the love that You give to me so freely. Thank You for showing me how to love. Amen.
