Today’s Scripture:

Psalm 69:1-5

Save me, God,
    because the waters have reached my neck!
I have sunk into deep mud.
    My feet can’t touch the bottom!
I have entered deep water;
    the flood has swept me up.
I am tired of crying.
    My throat is hoarse.
    My eyes are exhausted with waiting for my God.

More numerous than the hairs on my head
    are those who hate me for no reason.
My treacherous enemies,
    those who would destroy me, are countless.
    Must I now give back
    what I didn’t steal in the first place?
God, you know my foolishness;
    my wrongdoings aren’t hidden from you.

Questions to Ponder:

When you hurt others by being careless with your words or deeds, do you pray for the wisdom to learn from your mistakes? Are you quick to make amends when you have caused your brothers and sisters pain? When you are blamed for actions that do not involve you, do you think of the strength Christ had when faced with the most egregious accusations? How can you reach out to God when you have failed and when others have failed you?

Prayer for Today:

Generous and forgiving God, you know the trials of my humanity. Help me to live the example of your kindness and generosity. When I feel as though I am facing an enemy, help me to remember that they, too, are your child. Thank you the gentle serenity that my faith in you restores. Amen.
