1 Chronicles 29:11-13
Yours, O Lord, are the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty; for all that is in the heavens and on the earth is yours; yours is the kingdom, O Lord, and you are exalted as head above all. Riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all. In your hand are power and might; and it is in your hand to make great and to give strength to all. And now, our God, we give thanks to you and praise your glorious name.
Food for Thought:
The writer poetically praises God’s greatness. Often when we think about greatness by the world’s standards, it is very different than God’s greatness. Make a list of things you think the world thinks is great. Now think about God’s greatness and Jesus’ greatness — and write a list of things that make them great (slow to anger, abounding in steadfast love, forgiving etc.) What are the differences you notice in these lists?
Great God, we are thankful for the way in which you move in our lives. Guide us towards kingdom greatness where we seek justice for all, food for the hungry, homes for those without home, and words of healing for the hurting. In your name we pray, Amen.
