Today’s Scripture

Isaiah 40:9-11

Get you up to a high mountain, O Zion, herald of good tidings; lift up your voice with strength, O Jerusalem, herald of good tidings, lift it up, do not fear; say to the cities of Judah, “Here is your God!” See, the Lord God comes with might, and his arm rules for him; his reward is with him, and his recompense before him. He will feed his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms, and carry them in his bosom, and gently lead the mother sheep.

Food for Thought:

Gena_new1In this passage, the main image is that of God as a shepherd and God’s people as sheep. How does this image speak to you? What modern day image would you use to describe God?

Holy God, you gather the whole universe into your radiant presence and continually reveal your Son as our Savior. Bring healing to all wounds, make whole all that is broken, speak truth to all illusions, and shed light in every darkness, that all creation will see your glory and know Christ. Amen.
