Happy is everyone who fears the Lord, who walks in his ways.
You shall eat the fruit of the labor of your hands; you shall be happy, and it shall go well with you.
Your wife will be like a fruitful vine within your house; your children will be like olive shoots around your table.
Thus shall the man be blessed who fears the Lord.
The Lord bless you from Zion. May you see the prosperity of Jerusalem all the days of your life.
May you see your children’s children. Peace be upon Israel!
Food for Thought:
In another Psalm, we are told that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. When I think about God, I don’t fear the Lord. But maybe it is the type of fear you have for your parents: the fear to disappoint them, the fear of letting them down, or the fear of doing something that you would be ashamed of if they found out.
Redeeming Sustainer, visit your people and pour out your strength and courage upon us, that we may hurry to make you welcome not only in our concern for others, but by serving them generously and faithfully in your name. In your holy and precious name we pray, Amen.
