Ho, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and you that have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen carefully to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food. Incline your ear, and come to me; listen, so that you may live. I will make with you an everlasting covenant, my steadfast, sure love for David. See, I made him a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander for the peoples. See, you shall call nations that you do not know, and nations that do not know you shall run to you, because of the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, for he has glorified you.
Food for Thought:
When I read this passage, I think about excess. How we in America have so much and how people in other countries have so little. I never worry about my daily sustenance, where my next meal is coming from. I never worry about shelter, where I will lay down my head at night. I never worry about having enough because I have much more than I could ever need. This day, put yourself in someone else’s shoes and think about what that would be like. Then go out and do something to meet someone’s daily needs.
Life-giving God, heal our lives, that we may acknowledge your wonderful deeds and offer you thanks from generation to generation through Jesus Christ our Lord. May we give out of our abundance to those who are in need. Give us grateful hearts and remind us of how blessed we truly are. In your precious and holy name we pray, Amen.
