Today’s Scripture:

Colossians 3:12-17

Therefore, as God’s choice, holy and loved, put on compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Be tolerant with each other and, if someone has a complaint against anyone, forgive each other. As the Lord forgave you, so also forgive each other. And over all these things put on love, which is the perfect bond of unity. The peace of Christ must control your hearts — a peace into which you were called in one body. And be thankful people. The word of Christ must live in you richly. Teach and warn each other with all wisdom by singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Sing to God with gratitude in your hearts. Whatever you do, whether in speech or action, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus and give thanks to God the Father through him.

Cindy Lou Who: Santa?

The Grinch [dressed as Santa]: WHAT?

Cindy Lou Who: Don’t forget the Grinch. I know he’s mean and hairy and smelly. His hands might be cold and clammy, but I think he’s actually kinda . . . sweet.

The Grinch: SWEET? You think he’s sweet?

Cindy Lou Who: [nods] Merry Christmas, Santa.

The Grinch: Nice kid . . . baaad judge of character.

The beauty of Cindy Lou is that she sees past the “hairy, smelly, clammy” exterior of the Grinch. She looks into the depths of his “too small heart,” and recognizes that he is “kinda . . . sweet.” Ultimately, he rises to those expectations. The power of love is truly amazing!

My life has been full of mistakes. Some of them have left me feeling pretty awful and smelly and Grinch-like. But thankfully, there have been people in my life who have seen past that part of me, forgiven me, and helped me back up. Through them, God was always there with a message of courage and hope, even when I was most unlovely and unlovable.

Jesus did not live among the rich and beautiful. He lived among those who truly needed him . . . the smelly and the Grinch-like. People just like me! Thank God!

Heavenly Father, I am truly thankful. Thank you for your love. Thank you for the people in my life who love me and encourage me. Thank you for sending Jesus to teach us how to love one another. Remind me to forgive as He forgave, and to look for the sweetness in everyone I meet. In your precious Son’s name, Amen.
