The beginning of the good news of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. As it is written in the prophet Isaiah, “See, I am sending my messenger ahead of you, who will prepare your way; the voice of one crying out in the wilderness: ‘Prepare the way of the Lord, make his paths straight,’”
Food for Thought:
When I read this passage, I think of the ancestors of faith, those who have gone before us to teach us what it means to be a Christian. I am reminded of many faithful Christians throughout history that were willing to lead the way and guide people in what it meant to live a Christ-like life. Names like Francis of Assisi, Theresa of Avila, John Wesley, William Wilberforce, Martin Luther King Jr., and Mother Theresa come to mind along with countless others of the saints from this church, the church I grew up in, and my childhood mentors. Give thanks for the ancestors of your faith and remember them by name this day.
Light of life, you came in flesh, born into human pain and joy, and gave us power to be your children. Grant us faith, O Christ, to see your presence among us, so that all of creation may sing new songs of gladness and walk in the way of peace. In your name we pray, Amen.
