Today’s Scripture:

Psalm 85:8-13

Let me hear what the Lord God says,

because he speaks peace to his people and to his faithful ones.

Don’t let them return to foolish ways.

God’s salvation is very close to those who honor him

so that his glory can live in our land.

Faithful love and truth have met;

righteousness and peace have kissed.

Truth springs up from the ground;

righteousness gazes down from heaven.

Yes, the Lord gives what is good,

and our land yields its produce.

Righteousness walks before God,

making a road for his steps.

Food For Thought:

“He speaks peace.” “Peace” is the translation for “shalom.” Shalom is a deeper peace. It is peace entirely resembling God’s will for human beings. It is the sense that things are completely right. That is just what these verses depict. This is what it looks like when things are completely right. There is a real experience of God’s presence. People are good to one another. God’s character is reflected in God’s people. People’s physical needs are met and there is no doubt that God is working among them. Have you ever experienced the depth of shalom? Try to remember and consider what was at play when you knew that deep peace. How can you partner with God today in bringing shalom to your own soul and to your relationships?

God, I want to dwell in shalom! I desire to live in your glory, where your faithful love and your truth meet. I want to sit at the crossroads of your righteousness and peace. God, I know your will is for what is good. And I want to live into your will. Make a road for my steps that leads to shalom. I want to follow you there. Amen.
