1 Timothy 2:1-7
First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone, for kings and all who are in high positions, so that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and dignity. This is right and is acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God; there is also one mediator between God and humankind, Christ Jesus, himself human, who gave himself a ransom for all—this was attested at the right time. For this I was appointed a herald and an apostle (I am telling the truth, I am not lying), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.
Food For Thought:
In this passage of Scripture, the author reminds us to pray for our political leaders. This is an important reminder. Today, I want you to take a moment to pause and pray for our political leaders. I want you to pray that they make decisions for the good of humankind. That they put away agendas and govern in such a way that is kind to all God’s children and receive wisdom and guidance to govern in such a way that the next generation is better taken care of than the last one.
your hands hold the power of life itself.
You restore life in the face of death,
bringing hope out of despair
and promise out of destruction.
Through the breath of your Spirit
bring new life to us,
that we may announce to the world the power of your presence
made known in Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.
