We don’t live for ourselves and we don’t die for ourselves. If we live, we live for the Lord, and if we die, we die for the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we belong to God. This is why Christ died and lived: so that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living.
Food For Thought:
You belong to God. The New Interpreter’s Study Bible puts it simply and perfectly: “The one essential truth of Christian existence is that in life and death believers belong to the Lord.” We all want and need to belong. It is human and real to desire a sense of belonging. We are reminded in these three verses that we always belong―that we belong to God and are fully embraced by the presence of a faithful and active God. We belong to the community of believers who is corporately embraced, walking the journey of faith. Our belonging has no conditions and no boundaries. Not even death can separate us from the Lord.
God, I am glad to belong to you. I am grateful to have a home in your presence. I am overwhelmed by your patience with me, your acceptance of me and your adoring love for me. Give me comfort when I feel isolated and alone that I am never truly alone because you walk in front of me, beside me, and behind me. Amen.
