Today’s Scripture:

Psalm 130

I cry out to you from the depths, Lord—

my Lord, listen to my voice!

Let your ears pay close attention to my request for mercy!

If you kept track of sins, Lord—

my Lord, who would stand a chance?

But forgiveness is with you—

that’s why you are honored.

I hope, Lord.

My whole being hopes,

and I wait for God’s promise.

My whole being waits for my Lord—

more than the night watch waits for morning;

yes, more than the night watch waits for morning!

Israel, wait for the Lord!

Because faithful love is with the Lord;

because great redemption is with our God!

He is the one who will redeem Israel

from all its sin.

Food For Thought:

This psalm has a great emphasis on the character of God ― particularly forgiveness, faithful love and redemption. God’s character has left the psalmist certain that God hears him when he cries out.  The psalmist is desperate for mercy, forgiveness, hope, love and redemption ― and he is confident that he will receive these things from God.  God is great and God is good ― all the time!  God showed unfaltering faithfulness to Israel, and God continues to be faithful to us.  We don’t have any reason to wonder if God is present with us in the depths or heights of our lives.  God is present in all things.  God is full of love and forgiveness for each of us.

God, I cry out to you from my greatest pains.  And I know you hear me and you listen to me.  I am so thankful for your forgiveness when I take bad steps.  I am so thankful that you give me reason to hope that things will not always be like this ― that you are redeeming the world.  I am so thankful that your love is faithful and strong.  Please keep working on me ― making me new and healing my hurt.  I love you.  Amen.
