Today’s Scripture:

Psalm 28:6-9
Bless the Lord

because he has listened to my request for mercy!

The Lord is my strength and my shield.

My heart trusts him.

I was helped, my heart rejoiced,

and I thank him with my song.

The Lord is his people’s strength;

he is a fortress of protection for his anointed one.

Save your people, God!

Bless your possession!

Shepherd them and carry them for all time!

Food For Thought:

In this passage, the Psalmist communicates incredible trust in God. The writer conveys so much joy! It makes sense that those who trust God would also experience joy. When we trust God, we are not dependent on our own strength. God is our strength! When we are confident that God listens to us, it can only be because we have been talking to God and waiting for a response. When we realize that God stands with us and we are not on our own, we can rejoice in the help we receive from God’s faithfulness. The Psalmist calls out to God and praises God, believing that God is truly able.

God of strength, I want to trust you more! I long to place my faith and hope in you ― above myself, above others and above things. Open my eyes my ears and my heart that I might realize the many ways you listen, protect and help me today. In the name of your son Jesus Christ I pray, Amen.
