1 Thessalonians 5:16-20
Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise the words of prophets, but test everything; hold fast to what is good; abstain from every form of evil.
Food For Thought:
The line that stands out to me in this passage of Scripture is “Hold fast to what is good.” Think about your own spiritual life. How have you held fast to what is good? Did it help to have another person alongside you in your faith journey? How did that person hold you accountable? What did they do to lift you up or remind you what God envisioned for your life? How has that person’s faith been an inspiration to you? If that person is still living, tell them how thankful you are to have them in your life.
God of hope, you call us home from the exile of selfish oppression to the freedom of justice, the balm of healing, and the joy of sharing. Make us strong to join you in your holy work, as friends of strangers and victims, companions of those whom others shun, and as the happiness of those whose hearts are broken. We make our prayer through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
