Today’s Scripture:

Psalm 119:105-112

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

I have sworn an oath and confirmed it, to observe your righteous ordinances.

I am severely afflicted; give me life, O Lord, according to your word.

Accept my offerings of praise, O Lord, and teach me your ordinances.

I hold my life in my hand continually, but I do not forget your law.

The wicked have laid a snare for me, but I do not stray from your precepts.

Your decrees are my heritage forever; they are the joy of my heart.

I incline my heart to perform your statutes forever, to the end.

Food For Thought:

The line that sticks out the most to me is “Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”  I can’t hear this verse and not sing a song.  As a child, one of my favorite musicians was Amy Grant.  Her concert in Tulsa was the first concert that I went to as a child.  Listening to her music still moves me.

Here are the lyrics to her song, “Thy Word is a Lamp Unto My Feet”

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path.
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path.

When I feel afraid,
And think I’ve lost my way.
Still, You’re there right beside me.
Nothing will I fear
As long as You are near;
Please be near me to the end.

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path.
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path.

I will not forget
Your love for me and yet,
My heart forever is wandering.
Jesus be my guide,
And hold me to Your side,
And I will love you to the end.

Nothing will I fear
As long as You are near;
Please be near me to the end.

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path.
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet
And a light unto my path.
And a light unto my path.
You’re the light unto my path.

There is a profound message in these lyrics.  We are reminded that God is with us, by our side, and will help guide us along the path of faith.  That is a wonderful promise that we are told throughout the Biblical narrative.

Prayer:

Life-giving God, heal our lives that we may acknowledge your wonderful deeds and offer you thanks from generation to generation.  Guide us to be people of faith rather than fear.  Help us to always remember that you are near.  In your sacred name we pray, Amen.
