Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death— even death on a cross. Therefore, God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend in heaven and on earth and under the earth; and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Food For Thought:
This has always been one of my favorite passages of Scripture. It reminds us that as Christians we are called to be humble. We are called to be humble –to be selfless, to love unconditionally and to reach out to those who are on the fringes. We have the perfect model in Jesus Christ. This scripture is a poignant reminder of the call upon our lives.
God of wilderness and water, your Son was baptized and tempted as we are. Guide us through this season, that we may not avoid struggle, but open ourselves to blessing, through the cleansing depths of repentance and the heaven-rending words of the Spirit. In your precious name we pray, Amen.
