Today’s Scripture:

Romans 8:14-17

For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received a spirit of adoption. When we cry, “Abba! Father!” it is that very Spirit bearing witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ—if, in fact, we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him.

Food For Thought:

The image of being God’s children appears in this passage in Romans. What do you think it means to be a child of God? What are some of the attributes of a good parent? How do you think God cares for us as God’s children? How does God act as a loving parent?

Beckoning God,

as you moved in the lives of your disciples,

move in our lives,

inviting us to journey to unknown territory,

to listen for your voice,

and to speak your prophetic word

in a world that does not want to hear.

empowered by your Spirit,

grant us the courage we need

to journey, trust, listen, speak,

and accept your commission

to be your faithful servant people. Amen.
