The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters;
he restores my soul. He leads me in right paths for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff— they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord my whole life long.
Food For Thought:
This is probably one of the most well known passages of Scriptures because it is read at most funerals. It is a beautiful Psalm of comfort and reminds us of God’s amazing presence in our lives. Even in our darkest hour, God is with us. When I was 18, I was in a horrible car accident and I heard the voice of God saying “I am always with you, I will never leave you.” This is a wonderful promise that we have from God found throughout Scripture. God is always with us; we are never alone. Thanks be to God!
Holy God, you have called us to follow in the way of your risen Son, and to care for those who are our companions, not only with words of comfort, but with acts of love—seeking to be true friends of all. Remind us that you are always with us and we are never alone because you are there. In your sacred and precious name we pray, Amen.
