God’s People in the World — at the Mission

Jennifer StephensI have officially been in my new position as the Operations Assistant at First Street Methodist Mission for one month and what a month it has been! I am blessed every day to work with amazing volunteers who could run this program without me (don’t let that get out — I do need a job!). The compassion and love I see from these everyday people warms my heart. They are truly the hands and feet of Jesus continuing his work to the poor, the widow, and the outcast. Many of our volunteers are retired and are faithful to the Mission as they were to their previous careers. Their generosity overflows with birthday songs and gifts to our guests that might not hear someone say “Happy Birthday” to them. Our volunteers unload the grocery truck, sort through bags of clothes, help our guests shop for items, help parents get formula for their baby, wash our guests’ clothes, and look our guests in the eyes and let them know that they are loved and welcome here. I am thankful that our wonderful volunteers have answered the call to go out and be God’s people in the world!

The Mission is always in need of helping hands and smiling faces! If you would like to learn more about volunteering, you can contact me (jstephens@firststreetmission.org | 817-339-5068).

Grace and Peace,

Jennifer Stephens
