Some people shop till they drop on Black Friday. Others are only a click behind on Cyber Monday. Everyone can be a part of Giving Tuesday.
The Tuesday after Thanksgiving is #GivingTuesday, a global day of giving powered by social media and collaboration. More than 30,000 partners in 68 countries join together on this day with one common purpose: to celebrate and encourage giving to something that is important to you.
Roger Partridge, Director of Stewardship, feels like Giving Tuesday brings the focus back to the true meaning of giving — not just wild shopping on Black Friday and the online version of it on Cyber Monday. “There is so much hype around all of that,” Roger says. “Giving Tuesday supports organizations that really make a difference, rather than retailers and unnecessary items.”
Here at FUMCFW, our #GivingTuesday donations will support our annual Christmas Offering, a collective donation that benefits the following ministries:
- Kenya Orphan Endeavor
- Costa Rica Mission Trip
- Kid’s Hope USA
- Methodist Justice Ministry
- Food 4 Kids
- Infant Formula
- Women and Children’s Interim Housing at Presbyterian Night Shelter
- Methodist Children’s Home — Waco, Texas
- Providence Place (formerly Methodist Mission Home)
Roger believes it is important for the church community to strengthen the families and organizations that provide these ministries, which all focus on serving children. “The list of ministries that First Church supports are some of our favorites because of their long-term commitment to children,” Roger says. “We would hope that during the special time of Christmas, we would want to reach out to children that need extra help.”
This is a great opportunity to give and support these vital ministries of our faith community. Plus, you can share your giving stories on social media. This is a good way to tell other people about the organizations we support so they have the chance to join us — for this day of giving and throughout the year.
