October Good Book Club
Wednesday, October 7
5:30 pm | Dinner | Wesley Hall | Donations encouraged
6:00 – 7:00 pm | Parent Program | Wesley Hall
Good Book Club | Children’s Wing, 2nd floor
Our first Good Book Club of the fall is Wednesday, October 7. It kicks off with a meal in Wesley Hall at 5:30 pm. Adults are invited to stay in Wesley Hall from 6:00 – 7:30 for Dr. Elizabeth Jones’ parenting session — “Helping children work through their fears.”
From 6:00-7:00 the kids will have Good Book Club in the Children’s Wing. Our theme for October is — Fear vs Faith. Each book covers some aspect of faith or of overcoming fear.
3rd Grade and Older
Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie. This qualifies as an all-time classic, and we thought it would make a great choice (The movie Pan is in theatres October 9). Child-like faith is a key theme.
2nd Grade and Younger
We will divide these children into two equal groups, and each group will read and participate in activities for both books (30 minutes each).
Go Away Big Green Monster by Ed Emberly
A fun, creatively illustrated book that empowers children to not let their fears get the best of them.
The Little Engine that Could by Watty Piper, illustrated by Loren Long
Another classic, The Little Engine that Could is the quintessential children’s book for believing in one’s self — I think I can. I think I can. This is a great new edition, illustrated by Loren Long.
