VBS Blasts Off Next Week!

By July 2, 2019

Next week, July 8 – 12, the hallowed halls of FUMCFW will be swarming with Vacation Bible School (VBS) where more than 630 children age 3 through 6th grade, with more than 100 adult and 85 youth volunteers attempting to herd them.

“We are always amazed how many people step up to help,” says Mister Mark Burrows, Director of Children’s Ministries. “To brag on Janice Cooper (Assistant Director of Children’s Ministries) for a second — every single one of our adult volunteers is Ministry Safe which is a HUGE undertaking! Janice makes that happen.”

With children in just about every nook and cranny of our magnificent church, the whole place will be reverberating with the excitement of helping kids of all ages discover the wonders of God’s universe. As voyagers on a journey through space, along the way they’ll learn how God walked with heroes of the Bible — and that God is always with them, too.

“In this year’s VBS curriculum,” Mister Mark adds, “I love that the five main Bible stories are true core stories of our faith — Daniel in the Lions’ Den, Esther, The Good Samaritan, Jesus Healing Ten Men, The Road to Emmaus.”

And then on Sunday on July 14 at 11:00 am in the Sanctuary, our entire First Church family will get to see the culmination of this week of learning, sharing God’s love, and too much fun to pack into a paragraph. During worship our VBS kids and their brave volunteer leaders will dazzle the church with favorite songs and memories from their exciting week in our church.

VBS Celebration Sunday is open to all the kids and families who participated in VBS (not just church members!) and comes complete with a 5th Street celebration after church. If you’ve never attended this kind of party before, it is no exaggeration to say that 5th Street (in front of the church, blocked off on Sundays) will be hopping with activity including bounce houses, lunch, Kona Ice, and all kinds of family fun — plus the opportunity to sign up for our Fall Children’s Academy classes.

Whether or not you have kids in VBS, have kids at all, or your kids are grown with or without kids of their own, this nostalgic Sunday will bring a smile to your face as you remember the exhilaration of learning, playing, and exploring God’s love through Vacation Bible School!
