Each year for the past 39 years we have gathered in April for the annual United Methodist Women (UMW) Fundraiser to benefit women, teens, and children in Fort Worth and beyond. We’ve had fashion shows, high tea, derby hats, DIY Royalty, Radio and TV personalities, heroes, and celebrity chefs.
This year we’ll once again gather in April to celebrate the work of UMW and raise funding for these very worthy causes.
And that’s where the similarity ends.
Because this is the 40th anniversary of this beloved annual fundraiser, this year the hardworking ladies of UMW are kicking it up several notches to create an experience that will be as enjoyable as it is worthwhile — and as fascinating as it is festive. On Friday April 5 from 7:00 to 11:00 pm at Ridglea Country Club they’ll be throwing heck of a party — an evening black-tie-optional gala with dinner, silent and live auctions, speaker, and dancing to the live music of Trey and The Tritones.
Following a festive welcome reception and then moving into a fabulous dinner, guests will have the opportunity to hear the amazing and inspiring Journey Through Faith story from former Dallas Cowboy and Texas A&M Hall of Famer Dat Nguyen. And, in addition to regular general admission tickets, for the first time ever guests will be able to purchase VIP tickets which will gain them admission to a special VIP lounge, open bar, and lots of other goodies.
“It’s going to be so much fun,” exclaims Kelsie McGilvray, this year’s UMW Program Chair. Kelsie says that the main thing that makes this event distinctive is that it will be held at night with spouses, guests and friends joining the fun. “We’re expecting hundreds of people,” she adds, “and it is our hope that we will raise more money than we ever have before at this event.”
Some of the missions and charities the UMW supports are directly connected to our congregation, like the Methodist Justice Ministry that helps domestic violence victims, Kids Hope USA, a fabulous mentoring program, the First Street Methodist Mission, and children’s and youth programs here at our church. Reaching beyond our church is UMW’s support of United Community Centers and Methodist Children’s Home in Waco.
