Socially Distanced Holy Week

By April 10, 2020

Just because we’re had a socially distanced Holy Week this year doesn’t mean it was any less meaningful. In fact, thanks to the virtual and online offerings of First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth — and this new slowed-down, family-focused reality we’re living in, your 2020 Holy Week could turn out to be among your most sacred yet. Let’s take one more stroll through these unique offerings of our church.

First we cheered our Virtual Palm Sunday Parade

Then, on Maundy Thursday, we offered special content including an at-Home Family-Style Last Supper Seder via Family Sunday School, Living Last Supper online at noon and 6:30 pm, followed by Holy Communion via Zoom at 7:00 pm.

Good Friday brought our special Service of Darkness Tenebrae Service, live at noon and 7:00 pm, pre-recorded in our stunning Sanctuary with Special Music from our Adoramus Professional Singers and Organist and Associate Director of Music and Worship Arts Peggy Graff, directed by Robert Stovall, Director of Music and Worship Arts, as well as clergy speakers including Dr. Tim Bruster, Senior Pastor, Rev. Lance Marshall, Co-Pastor, Rev. Linda McDermott, Rev. Phyllis Barren, Rev. Zhenya Gurina Rodriguez, and Rev. Tom McDermott as the voice of Jesus.

“Easter Egg Saturday” – a less than official Holy Week occasion — carries its own significance in the life of our church. This year, Easter Saturday offered much needed respite from seriousness and opportunity for a lot of Family Fun with the lighthearted fun of a Virtual Easter Egg Hunt and the hope, simple beauty, and symbolism of a Butterfly Release and “The Hymn of Promise.”

Bringing us once again to the glory of Easter Sunday Morning — online — in four distinct live online worship experiences: Sanctuary, The Gathering, eleven:eleven, and DiscipleChurch to help the congregation beyond our walls to celebrate Easter in all its glory with spectacular music, moving messages, and unique soul-stirring opportunities for deep Easter reflection in the safety and comfort of your home and family.

Remember that no matter who you are or where you usually worship, you are always welcome to share the unique resources created for this unprecedented reality of social distancing, by FUMCFW, for you; including a Nightly Prayer Room with Dr. Zhenya Gurina-Rodriguez, Weekday Morning Prayer and Devotional via Zoom and Facebook Live with Rev. Lance Marshall, Centering Prayer with Dr. Len Delony, Grief Support with Charme Robarts, and so much more. Visit our home page at fumcfw.org to learn all about these online offerings, and know that we are here for you now and in the future.
