One of the things we do best as a church is offering opportunities for young people to learn and grow in their faith through a variety of programs and ministries. With the exponential growth of these programs over the past decade, the need for qualified, committed, and caring adult volunteers has also escalated.
Each year adult and teenage volunteers help staff our wildly popular VBS, day camps and programs, Middle School and High School Mission Trips, Children’s Academy Sunday School and children’s choir, and many other opportunities including Kids Hope USA Mentoring and other outreach programs for children.
What do you need to do to be eligible for this heart-warming, smile-inducing use of a few hours of your time?
Our church embraces MinistrySafe, a program created to ensure the safety of children while on our campus and participating in our programs. The process includes filling out an application and background check form, watching videos, and taking a quiz — all available online. These two items take about 1.5 hours. Our church staff will then check references and schedule the brief (30 minutes) personal interview. Once completed, your MinistrySafe Certification is good for two years. “There are several steps in the process,” says Janice Cooper, Children’s Ministries Assistant, “but it is definitely time well-invested in the safety of the children!”
Because MinistrySafe certification for adults and older teens is such a careful process, it can overwhelm our staff to process a large number of applications at once. Therefore, if you know you’d like to volunteer your time at First Church to help enrich the lives of the children and families we serve, get a head start on the MinistrySafe process by signing up now!
