Peter Mayer joins eleven:eleven December 15

By December 12, 2019

This Winter Solstice concert will be a special holiday celebration of inspiring stories and songs of wit and wisdom. “Pete has been with us a number of times over the years,” Rev. Tom McDermott explains, “each time inspiring us with some of our favorite songs, and he always brings new ones to experience. He’s a highlight for us every year!”

Peter Mayer speaks to the truths of the Christmas season in a way not many lyricists can. Blending humor with hard-hitting truths isn’t easy, but Mayer makes it seem that way.

Merry Kitschy Christmas
Do a tacky dance
Wear your reindeer sweater
While you have the chance
It’s a kitschy season
Take it from the shelf
Give yourself a reason
Just to be yourself

With all your faults and failings
All your old regrets
Drape them on the railing
Dress them up in red
Along with all you cherish
Hang them side by side
They are all beautiful
At Christmas time

In this long-time First Church favorite experience that happens nearly every year during Advent, we’ll again greet our old friend, Peter Mayer, hailed by Sing Out magazine as “one of the finest songwriters on the planet,” Mayer’s “intricate guitar work, breathtaking imagery, and mystical lyricism offer balm for the weary soul.”

If you feel moved to delve deeper into your own curiosities this Christmas season, come and experience the “holy now” with Peter Mayer, Rev. Tom Mcdermott, The Revolution Band, and the perfectly imperfect eleven:eleven congregation.

Join us for a moving celebration of the season on Sunday, December 15 at 11:11 am at the Historic 512 Ballroom, Downtown (512 W. 4th St.).
