Next90 Vote Scheduled for September 13!

By July 24, 2020

This past Monday evening at its regular (virtual) monthly meeting, our FUMCFW Next90 Building Committee led by Barry Hudson voted unanimously to approve the next step for Phase I of our Next90 Building program, which is to schedule a Church Conference.

This official congregational vote will allow us to move forward into the construction phase of the building expansion program identified as the top priority in our 2017 Focus First Leadership Summit.  After this virtual Building Committee meeting, Barry said, “I am ecstatic about the positive vibe of the church in this challenging time and the commitment to move forward with this historic congregational vote.”

In the process outlined by The United Methodist Book of Discipline, to begin construction requires another congregational meeting and in-person vote (our last vote as a congregation on December 9, 2018 affirmed moving forward with preparation of architectural and engineering construction plans). However, with pandemic conditions still preventing such in-person meetings, our District Superintendent Louis Carr has approved our taking this step virtually via Zoom technology.

“This church has always done big and important things in difficult times, and this decision by our Building Committee exhibits the spirit of that legacy,” says Dr. Tim Bruster, Senior Pastor, “as did the results of our recent congregational survey that showed 94% of respondents in favor of moving forward now on Phase I of our Next90 Building Expansion Project. I am really happy to see this bright spot in these challenging times we’re in.”

Between now and this churchwide virtual meeting, our Building Finance Committee will reconvene (also via Zoom) to update our financial plan, and they will then meet again with our representative from the Texas Methodist Foundation to update our plans for interim construction financing.
