Make Your 2020 First Church Leadership Recommendations

By September 6, 2019

The early Methodist movement grew through the efforts of laity who led small groups, taught Bible study, provided outreach ministry, and led the administrative life of the church. Those efforts continue with our lay leadership, today and tomorrow.

A strong church needs strong lay leaders in addition to clergy leadership. Knowing that we are all called to be God’s People in the World, part of that responsibility is to use our gifts and graces to lead, to support, and to encourage the kind of great leadership for which our church is very well known.

From helping steer financial decisions, facility decisions, ministry decisions, staffing decisions, and more to attending conferences and playing a part in denominational issues, there are many ways to serve as a lay leader.

Here are our 2020 committees for lay leadership:

  • Church Council
  • Lay Leadership Committee
  • Staff/Parish Relations Committee
  • Board of Trustees
  • Lay Members to Annual Conference
  • Commission on Finance
  • Board of Stewards

The 2020 nominations process opens September 9!

To make a recommendation for a member of these committees, please fill out a recommendation form between September 9 and September 29. You can complete this form and make your recommendation onlinein the Main Office, and in the Welcome Center.

Once the recommendations are all received, our FUMCFW Lay Leadership Committee, a committee of nine church members chaired by Dr. Tim Bruster, will review all recommendations and vote on which will become official nominations. While we welcome all recommendations, it’s important to remember that all recommendations made do not automatically result in nomination.

Once nominations are confirmed by our Lay Leadership Committee, then the nominations are elected by the Charge Conference in order to be confirmed in their lay leadership role beginning in 2020.
