Looking for an Epiphany?

By January 3, 2019

If you’re like most people, this time of year calls for reflection — looking back, looking forward, making plans for the new year — and discernment. Who are we now, in this time of our lives? What is most important among our plans, goals, and dreams? What is God calling us to do in this coming year?

The Season of Epiphany begins with the Day of Epiphany (which is the traditional day celebrating the coming of the Wise Men) and is followed by what is officially called the “Season After Epiphany” in which we recognize the Incarnation (God in the flesh) and Baptism of Jesus. Although it’s a somewhat less recognized season in our Christian year, Epiphany is actually more ancient among Christians than Christmas or Advent.

What’s most important to us today in our observation of the Season of Epiphany is this season’s call to pay attention. Epiphanies, you see, are manifestations — signs of God’s presence with us in ways that we may not notice, overlook, or simply take for granted.

Join us for this eight-week Traditional Worship series starting January 13 in which we will discover new ways to think about the presence of God in our lives and how we can learn to pay closer attention to these manifestations in our day-to-day life.
