Emergency Response and Disaster Relief

By October 15, 2018

Our trained First Church Emergency Response Team (ERTs) will be traveling both Saturday and Sunday of this coming weekend under the leadership of Rev. Chuck Graff to help with the flood damage in the Everman and Forest Hill areas. More than 150 families in these areas are dealing with moderate to severe flood damage to their homes, many of which were not insured or under-insured for flooding. Please keep this team and all those affected by this flooding in your thoughts and prayers as they begin to recover from the devastating damage in these local areas of our Central Texas Conference.

In addition to our response to local flooding, a special disaster relief fund has been set up to assist the victims of Hurricane Florence in our east coast communities, as well as those who were devastated in South China and the Philippines where the deadly Typhoon Manghut, one of the most powerful storms to hit the region in decades.

According to CBS News and BBC News, Typhoon Mangkhut killed 64 people in the Philippines and 2.5 million people had to be evacuated in the Chinese province of Guangdong and on Hainan island; in Hong Kong the storm wrecked buildings and shut down the city.

Please remain in prayer for all of these victims of storms at home, across the nation, and around the world. If you’d like to make a donation toward disaster relief in these areas, it’s easy to give online using the Quick Give option and selecting “Flood Relief” from the drop down menu. If you have questions or need assistance in making your donation, please contact Larry Ammerman (lammerman@myfumc.org)
