Dementia Friendly Christmas Worship

By December 12, 2019

Christmas is a time to gather family and friends from all facets of life. During this special season, no one should feel alone in their struggles or unwelcome in the merriment. Come and bring family and friends to experience this special Christmas worship opportunity for people with dementia or other challenges and their families.

This simple-yet-festive service features a reading of The Christmas Story from Luke, Christmas carols, candlelight, and communion for those who wish to receive it. A reception in Wesley Hall with Christmas cookies and other goodies will follow.
Sometimes knowing how to plan your celebrations and activities can be difficult when a loved one is dealing with a dementia diagnosis. Gail Snider, Program Coordinator for Dementia Friendly Fort Worth says that what makes this service so special is to seeing people who are living with dementia engaging in the singing and scripture readings.  “It’s like for a short time, they come to life and it warms the hearts of family and friends,” she says. “Day to day, families struggle to have meaningful interactions with their loved one, but this chapel service provides this opportunity!  Many family members are moved to tears, as are those of us who are privileged to help provide this opportunity.”

Our Dementia Friendly Christmas Reception, which follows the service, will also include entertainment this year!  For our Tuesday evening reception, the Arlington Heights High School Show Choir will be featured.  For our Wednesday morning reception, Rebecca Ann Pope, Harpist will be featured.  Participants will also have an opportunity to visit the large Chrismon Tree in the Narthex of the main Sanctuary at the conclusion of the reception.

Let our FUMCFW Dementia Friendly ministry help make your season bright with its annual Christmas Worship Service.

Please be sure to Register in advance so we’ll know how many to prepare for!
