Christmas Eve Update!

By December 11, 2020

If you love the simple joy of being at church on Christmas Eve, celebrating this culmination of the Advent season with our entire First Church faith community, we have a surprise for you.

The Worship Team and staff at FUMCFW have just created a way to be physically present, on-campus at our beautiful church on Christmas Eve, yet safely distanced in our own vehicles for a unique twist on Christmas Eve services.

Created in addition to our traditional Christmas Eve Candlelight service, available this year as a pre-recorded online worship experience, on-demand from noon till midnight on Christmas Eve, this service will allow us to gather in person — and safely — on campus for a stirring community celebration backdropped by the front of our magnificent Sanctuary.

This Still Christmas Drive-in Christmas Eve experience will feature scripture, message, communion, and singing (sing as loud as you want! You’re in your car with the windows rolled up!), and some surprises you won’t want to miss. We’ll employ an FM transmitter so you can access the audio for the service by tuning your car radio to [station] in each of these brief services starting at 7:00 and 9:00 pm.

Volunteers will be on hand to direct you to preselected parking areas that will offer you the best view, some on Fifth Street and some in the Justin Lot. (First-come, first-served on the prime spots!)

Upon arrival you’ll be greeted warmly by wandering, costumed “nativity crew” staff members and given an assortment of things, including:

  • A print bulletin and song sheet (or you will be able to queue it up on your smartphone or tablet if you prefer electronic).
  • A specially created QR code (or link if you’re digital), so you can register your attendance, make your Step-Up! year-end gift, and contribute to our Christmas Offering benefiting our many wonderful outreach ministries who depend on donations for their annual program funding.
  • A pre-packaged communion kit (sealed wafer and juice) and instructions for taking communion in your car.

Be sure to decorate your car (a very clever prize will be awarded for the best-decorated vehicle!)

Bring non-perishable items for the First Street Methodist Mission (that would be cereal, spaghetti, canned soup, rice, pasta, beans, etc.),

So put the kids in their PJs (and wear your own if you’d like!), pack some hot chocolate and snacks, and load up the whole family to join us in front of the Church at 7:00 or 9:00 pm (or both!) for a Christmas Eve memory to last a lifetime!
