This past Sunday in a combined zoom webinar meeting and an in-person vote, the construction of Next90 Phase I was approved by a whopping 92.4% margin. “This vote is the highest margin I’ve seen on a major church project vote in all of my years of ministry,” comments Dr. Tim Bruster, Senior Pastor, “Thank you to all of our faithful members who made this happen!”
What this landmark decision means is that following our long First Church legacy of stepping out in faith and doing great things in challenging times, work will begin immediately to set this historic expansion into motion. As this week marks the six-month anniversary of taking our worship and ministries online in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, we will continue to use this time of low building occupancy well with the unhindered beginning of this project, just as we have completed the Audio-Visual-Lighting (AVL) upgrade in the Sanctuary and Media Ministries studio, careful plaster repair and repainting of the sanctuary ceiling, and installation of new exterior security cameras and lighting.
Construction of NEXT90 Phase I will include:
- New Children’s Wing
- New HVAC System (with enhanced air filtration)
- Reorienting Wesley Hall and Upgrading its AVL systems. (Cameras, Lighting, Sound)
- Enhanced exterior campus lighting and landscaping
- Infrastructure improvements needed to prepare for Phase II construction
Closing with the Robert Frost Quote, “We not only believe in the future, but we believe the future in,” Dr. Bruster adds, “That really is what this church is doing and has been doing.”
Be sure to mark your calendar now for the formal celebration of this historic step on October 29 at 4:00 pm, which is the 91st anniversary of breaking ground on our beautiful Sanctuary. This celebration will be live-streamed and then incorporated into a historical montage as our generation take its rightful place among the great visionary generations that created the reality we enjoy today.
“And if you haven’t yet made your financial commitment to NEXT90 Phase I,” Rev. Lance Marshall, Co-Pastor, adds, “now would be a great time to celebrate this major step by adding your own commitment to the mission and ministries of our church for our next 90 years.”
