Advent Wreaths — Because It’s Still Christmas

By November 6, 2020

In a few short weeks we’ll be entering the season of Advent. And as we all know, this year will be different. But you know what? It’s still Christmas. And that is the theme of our Advent Season this year, which will start with the distribution of an advent wreath to set up and enjoy at home as the season unfolds.

Starting November 8, we invite First Church members, friends, and guests to pick up a specially created Advent activity box for families or anyone who wants to create a home worship space during Advent this year with an Advent wreath identical to the one we’ll be lighting in the Sanctuary each Sunday of Advent.

The box also contains a weekly worship guide and several carols to sing at home as you enjoy this unique experience of Advent we’re calling Still Christmas. Also included will be a list of opportunities for you to support the Methodist Justice Ministries and the First Street Methodist Mission.

Boxes will be distributed on Sundays beginning November 8 through November 22 in the West Parking Lot from 10:30-11:00 am and noon – 1:00 pm.

With these wreaths assembled and glowing in our First Church homes, we as one faith community will mark each week of the Advent season — together even if we’re apart — until Christmas Day when we celebrate “The true light that shines on all people was coming into the world.” (John 1:9).

It’s going to be a slower pace this year, a calmer, gentler holiday season. A still Christmas, if you will. And still, it will be Christmas.
