AUGUST 30, 2013
Beginning this Sunday, September 1st, we will focus on the music of our faith, and there is simply no better teacher than Dr. Michael Hawn. A globally recognized author, singer, songwriter, keynote speaker and university faculty member of the Perkins School of Theology, SMU, where he serves as professor of sacred music, Hawn possesses extensive experience in teaching music to people of all ages and cultures.
Explains Taylor Davis, Director of Music and Worship Arts at FUMC, “He’s so in tune with the rich history of Methodist singing, and has such a unique energy and presence, he is simply not to be missed.”
So join us this Sunday as Michael lays the foundation for a month-long sermon series on why singing and Methodism are inextricably linked.

9.8 GOOD BOOK CLUB BEGINS
Guess What? Good Book Club is moving to the SECOND SUNDAY of every month from 6:00 – 7:00 pm. This schedule change will allow more families to participate, and the earlier start time will allow parents of younger children to get kiddos home and in their PJs at a more reasonable time.
The theme for our September Good Book Club is “God Is.” Our three book selections will focus on aspects of who God is, as revealed by some all-time classic storybook characters.
Kindergarten and Younger – The Runaway Bunny by Margaret Wise Brown, pictures by Clement Hurd. This is practically Psalm 139 in children’s book form. A little bunny tells his mother he is going to run away. The mother bunny assures him, that no matter where he goes or what he does, he can never outrun her love.
1st, 2nd, and 3rd Grade – Frog and Toad Are Friends by Arnold Lobel. The relationship between Frog and Toad is one of the most tender in children’s literature. Through them and their interactions, we see many aspects of God’s love.
4th Grade and Older – The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis. It’s hard to have a children’s book club at a church without bringing in this classic. Readers will explore the nature of God’s love, especially through the lion, Aslan.
Questions? Contact Nikki McInnis (firstname.lastname@example.org) at 817/339-5086.
