August 23, 2013
As I write this, Lance and Elizabeth Marshall and I are attending the New Congregation Start Boot Camp in Plano. We are learning from experienced and passionate experts about how to start a new worshipping community successfully. There are proven pathways to success gleaned from years of experience (hard-learned lessons from mistakes as well as inspiration from successes). Perhaps you don’t know that this new initiative of our church to reach 20- and 30- somethings in the West 7th area has a name. The new community in the early stages of forming is called “First 7th.” READ MORE

“LET THE CHILDREN COME” CAMPAIGN
The Outreach Ministries of FUMC are devoted to making a difference in the lives of children living in poverty. Whether these children are served through the First Street Methodist Mission, the Children’s Outreach Ministries or the Justice Ministry, our goal is to make a difference in the lives of children who, through no fault of their own, are living in poverty.
Please make a difference by designating your check in the offertory to “Let the Children Come Campaign” or click HERE to donate online.

Dr. Bruster continued:
Lance is making contacts in the community, leading a Bible study now on Sunday mornings at 9:00 at Einstein’s Bagels, and entering a relationship with a coach, who is knowledgable and experienced in starting new places for new people. I am learning about my role as supportive supervisor and the ways in which folks at the main campus of our church can be involved in creating this new faith community to reach many new people in making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.
A number of people have asked me how they can be involved. You may be wondering what you can do. Here are some suggestions:
• Join the prayer team (bit.ly/First7th)
• Invite people to the Einstein’s Bible Study (http://www.meetup.com/First7th-org/)
• Contact Lance (firstname.lastname@example.org) with the names and contact information of people you think would be interested: friends, coworkers, acquaintances, family members, etc.
• Spread the word! Talk about it–particularly among people who are not part of a church community and are looking for something different. Also, visit the First 7th Facebook page: www.facebook.com/first7th and “like” the page.
I look forward to seeing you Sunday!
Grace and Peace,
Do you have an eye for great photographs and videos? A nose for news? An ear trained for stories that could make a difference? A few hours a week to help the communications team find and tell the stories that matter to our faith community? We want you! In anticipation of our brand new website set to launch this summer, our fall issue of Connect magazine (the summer issue is headed your way in the next few weeks!) and exciting new opportunities to tell our stories using these new vehicles, we’re looking for volunteers to work with our dynamic, revamped Communications Committee to form editorial, photography, videography, and social media teams. For more information or to join our volunteer list, please contact Lisa Helm (email@example.com) at 817/339-2403 and we’ll be delighted to tell you more!
