Taylor_000Taylor Davis, Director of Music and Worship Arts

In January, several of the music staff attended a continuing education event in Dallas. It was a workshop where each staff member could fill each day studying in the area of their choice: adult, youth, and children’s music, handbells, worship, composition, and more, were all represented. Like a choose-your-own-ending book for musicians. (It’s more interesting than it sounds. I promise.) READ MORE

outreachPLEASE KEEP OUR KENYA MISSION TEAM IN YOUR PRAYERS

Since 2010, mission teams from FUMCFW have traveled to Meru, Kenya to assist Reverends Stella and Daniel Mwiti in their work with 250 orphans and vulnerable children. Each summer these children experience Vacation Bible School with the team members and receive a gift from our church at the end of the week. This year the children will receive sweaters and backpacks. Together, FUMCFW and the Kenyan Mission Team are providing these children with educational opportunities that improve their chances for a brighter future.

“LET THE CHILDREN COME” CAMPAIGN

The Outreach Ministries of FUMC are devoted to making a difference in the lives of children living in poverty. Whether these children are served through the First Street Methodist Mission, the Children’s Outreach Ministries or the Justice Ministry, our goal is to make a difference in the lives of children who, through no fault of their own, are living in poverty.

Please make a difference by designating your check in the offertory to “Let the Children Come Campaign” or click HERE to donate online.

Taylor continued:

Most of the time – and I’m not proud to admit this – I skip the worship services in favor of a good meal. After all, I’m not there for worship; I’m there to attend class and soak in techniques and ideas and wisdom.

But on this particular day, Lindy Cabe and I sat down in the sanctuary of Lovers Lane UMC, and watched a very unpredictable service unfold: hymns and prayers were somewhat unfamiliar, and the bulletin didn’t have anything but the most necessary information.

Inside of that service, we found Dr. Mary Louise Bringle (or Mel, as her friends call her), standing in the pulpit and speaking directly to our souls. Her words about worship and hymnody were inspiring – like she knew every little idea I had ever wanted to convey about music and its impact on worship and gave them voice.

I was inspired. We simply had to have her come to FUMC. Because I knew you would be inspired, too.

So within a couple of days, an invitation was extended and accepted, and I’ve been waiting — like a 6-year-old on Christmas Eve — for months to share her with you.

This Sunday is the day. Dr. Bringle will be in the Chapel at 9:40 and in the Sanctuary at 11:00, and I promise you will want to be there. She is a fine speaker, a scholar, and a champion for worship.

Do not miss Mel Bringle. Trust me.

Taylor

COMMUNICATIONS CORNER

Do you have an eye for great photographs and videos? A nose for news? An ear trained for stories that could make a difference? A few hours a week to help the communications team find and tell the stories that matter to our faith community? We want you! In anticipation of our brand new website set to launch this summer, our fall issue of Connect magazine (the summer issue is headed your way in the next few weeks!) and exciting new opportunities to tell our stories using these new vehicles, we’re looking for volunteers to work with our dynamic, revamped Communications Committee to form editorial, photography, videography, and social media teams. For more information or to join our volunteer list, please contact Lisa Helm (lhelm@myfumc.org) at 817/339-2403 and we’ll be delighted to tell you more!
