Our Church Still Needs Your Help!
To those of you who have responded so generously to the recent requests for increased year-end giving to help our church close out its 2014 financial year successfully, we thank you!
And, while donations received in the past two weeks have helped make some progress, we are still facing a deficit; in other words, our church still needs your help. If you have been meaning to make a year-end gift (or an additional gift) to join in this community effort to raise our year-end donations to meet this need, there’s still time to make your 2014 gift count toward this significant goal.
We know it’s a busy time of year, and to help make year-end giving as quick and convenient as possible, here are a few things to know about giving to our church this time of year:
- Many ways to give: Click here to give via debit or credit card, simply write a check with 2014 Budget in the memo line and drop it in the offering plate this Sunday or mail it (postmarked before December 31) — or now you can even make a donation to the church via text message! (To access this new Text-to-Give Option, simply text the dollar amount of your donation to 817/241-2327 and follow the prompts.) This new, fast, and secure giving option allows you to make a quick one-time gift to our church as often as you’d like by accessing our regular online giving portal in a whole new way. Join the community effort now underway to close out our financial year in success — text your gift today
- New advantages for IRA owners 70 ½ or older: The recent renewal of the charitable IRA rollover, allows IRA owners 70 ½ or older to give out of their Individual Retirement Accounts required minimum distribution. They can exclude up to $100,000 a year from income if the IRA funds are paid directly to certain public charities. This ruling applies retroactively to charitable IRA distributions made earlier this year and to those made through December 31. If this situation applies to you, we hope you will consider making a year-end gift from your IRA to FUMC Fort Worth.
- Capital gains tax advantages for appreciated stock: You can avoid capital gains on appreciated stock and get a charitable donation for the full value of the shares if you transfer the shares directly to the church. Because the values of common stock have increased this year, this giving option just might be the win-win you’ve been looking for!
If you have questions about how to donate using credit cards, shares of appreciated stock or from an IRA in lieu of a minimum distribution, please contact Larry Ammerman, Business and Facilities Administrator, (email@example.com) at 817/339-3884, or Steven Fagan, CPA, Associate Business Administrator (firstname.lastname@example.org) at 817-339-5085.
Join us for worship the first Sunday after Christmas. Enjoy breakfast in Wesley Hall and then worship in the Sanctuary as we all join together in one big service and continue to celebrate The REAL Christmas this Advent season!
If you would like to volunteer to bring food, please bring it to the 5th street garden ramp doors leading into Wesley Hall between 8:45 and 9:00 am and there will be someone there to let you inside. Please note that all of the doors to the church will be locked until 9:15 am. Breakfast will be served from 9:30 – 10:30 am. Contact Rev. Page Hines (email@example.com) at 817/339-5063 to volunteer to bring food and/or serve breakfast or for more information.
EVER WONDERED WHAT IT’S LIKE TO SING IN THE CHOIR?
Everyone — and we mean EVERYONE — is invited to come to the second floor choir room at 10:30 am to learn a piece of music for the service at 11:00 am. No experience is necessary! The only requirement is enthusiasm and a willingness to have FUN, so bring the entire family and enjoy a wonderful morning of music and worship!

Please send your information to Lisa Helm (firstname.lastname@example.org) and we will include your story!
Thomas and Maggie Layman took the opportunity to partake in the FUMCFW Honoring our First Responders project. The twins delivered cookies they baked with their grandmother to our local heroes at Fort Worth Fire Station 37 and the Ft Worth Police Departmentt at the corner of North Beach and Basswood. A big thank you to the Layman twins — and EVERYONE — who was part of this special First Church holiday initiative!
