John 1:1-18; Luke 12:15-18
This Sunday, the Fourth Sunday in Advent, in addition to enjoying a very special morning of music from our Fifth Street Bells, we’ll be looking at the interesting connections to be found between the word, “life” — which is another favorite word of John’s — juxtaposed with the concept of life as we see it in that beloved Christmas classic, It’s a Wonderful Life.
In the first chapter of John we explore the notion of abundant life — and what that means in its scriptural context: “in him was life and his life was the light to all people.”
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR FROM YOUR FUMCFW COMMUNICATIONS TEAM!
This issue of the FUMCFW Weekly News contains all your FUMCFW News and Coming Event information through December 24. Please note the church will be closed on December 25th & 26th and January 1 & 2.
OUR CHURCH NEEDS YOUR HELP!
Each year we anticipate receiving almost 30% of our donations ($1.1 million) during November and December. And this year, with our YTD donations 5% lower than anticipated, we need a surge of year-end donations to help our church finish this year successfully.
And, just this week, the charitable IRA rollover, enacted in 2006, was renewed to encourage older Americans to give out of their Individual Retirement Accounts. We hope you will consider making a year-end gift from your IRA to FUMC Fort Worth. Under this new law, which applies retroactively to charitable IRA distributions made earlier this year and to those made through December 31, IRA owners age 70-1/2 or older can exclude up to $100,000 a year from income if the IRA funds are paid directly to certain public charities. (Otherwise, the IRA owner would have to pay tax on the IRA funds before claiming the deduction.) For taxpayers who don’t normally itemize their deductions and so don’t get to deduct their contributions anyway, it’s a winner, and for taxpayers who usually do itemize, it may also leave them ahead.
Also, because the values of common stock have increased this year, if you have appreciated stock, you can avoid capital gains and get a donation for the full value of the shares if you transfer the shares directly to the church.
If you have questions about how to donate using credit cards, shares of appreciated stock or from an IRA in lieu of a minimum distribution, please contact Larry Ammerman, Business and Facilities Administrator, (email@example.com) at 817/339-3884.
All donations are extremely important to helping the many vital ministries of our church as we join together to Love God, Serve People, and Transform Lives. Click here to make your year-end gift now or by check.

Little Whit Sykes, son of Lauren and Clark Sykes and grandson of Debbie and Jim Whitton, our Board of Trustees Chair, helps deliver cookies to local first responders and discovers the hidden surprise — and true delight — that so often rides along with giving to others: ” He went to deliver cookies last year for First Responders but was a little shy,” explains Lauren. “This year, he was ready; he went in and didn’t stop talking the whole time. My mother said he was literally beaming the entire time he was there. The highlight was getting to climb up into the fire truck and play with the hoses!”
“Thank you for all you do,” Whit exclaimed as he made this very special delivery, “Merry Christmas!”
