Grateful Living
Dear Friends,
This Sunday, November 23, is Thanksgiving Sunday. Susan and I will be in worship with her parents, Bob and Nancy Prince, at Immanuel Baptist Church in Monticello, Arkansas. Her father, Bob Prince, will be honored on Sunday as a Deacon Emeritus of that church. They helped found the church and were, of course, charter members of it. They have been active at every level of the life of the church. It is appropriate on that Sunday that much of our family will be together to help celebrate Dad’s honor and to join with that congregation in giving thanks for his service.
You’ll want to be in worship at First Church on Sunday. Reverend Linda McDermott will be preaching in the sanctuary services on “Gratitude and Grace” as the congregation gathers to give thanks for the grace of God and the blessings that flow from God’s grace. Gratitude, practiced fully, is more than the expression of words — it is a way of life.

WE’RE ALMOST THERE!
Survey science tells us that a reliable sample begins at a 10% response, which in our case is 400 – and thanks to your response to the newsletter and email blast last week, we are at 380! Though we have ALMOST the minimum number of responses needed, for a relyable survey, the more the better — and clearer.
If you haven’t done so already, please take a few minutes today and complete your part of this important — and anonymous — planning tool for our church.
Click here to take this survey online; printed survey forms also available in the Welcome Center and main Church Office.

12.6 JINGLE BELLS FOR CANCER CELLS
Help Support FUMCFW Methodist Justice Ministry
4:00 – 700 pm | Sundance Square
$25 for adults | Kids 12 and under free | Includes all activities
The Methodist Justice Ministry of First United Methodist Church has been blessed to be chosen as one of the three organizations supported by the fund raising activities of “HMC Presents.”
Hearts and Minds who Care (HMC) is a Texas non-profit organization built and run by three young Fort Worth mothers and a host of volunteers with the sole mission to raise funds for non-profits serving our community. One of its founders, Jade Bailey, is the wife of Jake Bailey, who serves on our Methodist Justice Ministry Board; Jake’s parents are Una & Joe Bailey, long-time FUMCFW members and members of the Loyalty class. Christen Gullatt, (another of the HMC founders) is a preschool teacher at FUMC.
As sponsors of “Jingle Bells for Cancer Cells” HMC raises money to be divided between our Justice Ministry and two organizations engaged in combating children’s cancer. This fun-filled outdoor family event includes: Musicians: Ray Johnston Band, Robert Sebastian and band, The Dean’s List, and Rick Bernard James
Sundance Food Vendors: Bird Café, The Original Cupcakery, Pirhana Killer Sushi, Starbucks and Schakolad
Fun Zone: A Photo booth, Miss Teen Texas contestants, face painting, Hair extensions from Zeeba Salon, and much more!
Please support this wonderful cause — and our own Methodist Justice Ministry — by joining this fantastic community event.

MUCH MORE THAN CHILI!
This year, after talking with many folks now experiencing homelessness, as well as our volunteers in year-round ministry with these neighbors, we have decided to extend our traditional “Chili Lunch” holiday celebration in a new and different way. Rather than just a few days of Chili Lunches this Advent season, we are going to offer a surprise or two each day of Advent during lunchtime at the Mission.
Look for sign up instructions for this special extended holiday volunteer opportunity in our First Church Advent Giving Catalog, available beginning November 30. Click here to view the catalog of giving opportunities OR pick pick up a copy in the Welcome Center or Main Office.
Food 4 Kids is a ministry of First Street Methodist Mission that will send food home for the weekend for 100 kids at I.M. Terrell Elementary during the school year.
