This week as we consecrate our spectacular new Anne S. and Henry B. Paup Sanctuary Pipe Organ, we are delighted to welcome Dan Garland, organ builder, to present the homily for this historic occasion in our church. If you have been fortunate enough to have heard Dan speak in presentations to various groups during the installation process, you’ll know why we invited Dan to speak as part of this very special worship service in the life of our church. Dan speaks out of a personal passion and deep understanding of the theology of our hymns. He will share with us out of his understanding of the role music — especially the music of a pipe organ — and how it enhances and deepens our experience of worship. This is more than an academic exercise for Dan — it is fundamental to his work and to his life. I hope you will join us for this important historic worship service and be among the first to welcome our new pipe organ to its special place in our hearts and in our sanctuary.

We have felt some much love and support from our church family since Tommy’s diagnosis. Super Frog’s visit with Tommy is just one incredible example out of many that demonstrates the love and kindness our family has received during this time. Tommy went from a perfectly healthy kid to a child with a big medical diagnose in a matter of a few weeks. We gave our support system only a few days’ notice that Tommy was going to be having brain surgery. Super Frog has always been one thing Tommy loves to talk about and before surgery it was the only thing that calmed him down. Because of that it became Mr. Mark’s mission to bring Super Frog to visit Tommy at school. He knew that recovery would be hard because Tommy isn’t allowed to run, jump, or play at recess. We are so grateful Mr. Mark worked so hard to bring Super Frog to brighten Tommy’s day. He still talks about him weeks later. Thank you, Mr. Mark, for all your hard work. Thank you also to Ms. Nina and the preschool staff for allowing Super Frog to come and interrupt their day.
