“Busted!”
Matthew 22:15 – 22
I am kind of obsessed with an English murder mystery series right now. The way the plot moves, new characters being introduced at key moments, veiled hints of potential motives, red herrings, and finally that scene where a simple slip of the tongue or subtle change in expression and — wham! — the truth is revealed and the guilty party is exposed for who they truly are. It’s the job of the lead detective (or in the case of the British, the Chief Inspector) to carefully maneuver the situation, often appearing naïve or even befuddled, tempting the guilty to let down his guard until his hand is exposed.
When I read the story in Matthew’s gospel about the Pharisees’ attempts to trick Jesus into incriminating himself and, therefore, sealing his fate, it seemed reminiscent of the techniques used in some of my favorite detective stories (re: Matthew 22: 15 – 22).

From Mister Mark
First, I want to say thank you for supporting our new security measures in the Children’s Wing. Having the second floor doors for exit only will take some getting used to (especially for those of us who office right next to those doors),but we really appreciate your understanding.
Second, The Attendance Challenge:
Whichever Academy class has the best attendance for the month of October (based on class enrollment so it’s fair for all) will get a pancake party in November. The kids really get into this! We know pancakes aren’t the reason you entrust your children to our care each Sunday. We just thought we’d have a little fun!

9.21 – 10.23 ROOTS OF CHANGE
Sunday afternoons | 12:30 – 2:30 pm (potluck lunch)
Foundation Building | Room 274 | Led by Sharon West and Mike Phillips
Gandhi once said, “We must be the change we want to see in the world.” In a culture growing less civil and more violent, change often feels impossible. But there are some things we can learn about ourselves, our faith, and our relationships that can radically empower us to deal with the issues facing our world. Roots of Change is a two-hour weekly gathering lasting 10 weeks, designed to expose how patterns in our emotions impact how we work, think, pray and love. It is a life-changing journey into deep community that offers the opportunity to strengthen relationships and discover new insights into our lives. There is no charge but donations are accepted to continue this ministry. Child care is available upon request. Sharon West and Mike Phillips are both FUMCFW members who have participated in previous Roots of Change groups. Sharon has led multiple Roots groups over the last several years and Mike is in the process of changing his career to the field of Restorative Practices, largely as a result of his Roots experience. To register, contact Marianne Wilson (mwilson@myfumc.org) at 817/339-5071.
