linda_webWhat Will You Do in this New Year?

Micah 6:1-8

Rev. Linda McDermott

This Sunday, we will conclude the season of Epiphany and the sermon series “In This New Year” with a look at what it is that you and I will DO in this New Year.

For Christians, one of the most popular verses in the Bible comes from a small book in the Hebrew Scriptures from the prophet Micah. You may know very little about this prophet, and absolutely nothing about the context of his writing, but it is likely that you are at least familiar with one verse from this short book. You may even have it memorized. I have a calligraphy of it hanging in my office as a daily reminder of what I am to be about:

“And what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, love, kindness, and walk humbly with your God.”

PB WARS small

Peanut Butter Wars 2014

Help us win this challenge and, more importantly, help our neighbors in need by participating in Peanut Butter Wars 2014. Genesis United Methodist Church has accepted our challenge to see which church can collect the most peanut butter during the month of February. We lost this challenge last year – let’s not let that happen again!

There are THREE ways you can help:

1. Bring your jars of peanut butter to the Welcome Center on Sundays during February — or to the First Street Mission Monday – Thursday from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm.

2. Make a cash donation at the Welcome Center on Sundays. (Eager, bargain-sniffing peanut butter shoppers are standing by!)

3. Click here to donate online now! We’ll purchase and stack the peanut butter for you!

Questions? Contact First Street Methodist Mission at 817/335-6080.

OK, FUMCFW . . .  it’s time for you  to

BRING IT!

2.9 – 4.13 ROOTS OF CHANGE

CCT_ROCLogo-2012

Room 274 | Foundation Building

Multiple groups begin the week of February 9th:

Sunday | 9:00  – 11:00 am

Sunday | 12:30 – 2:30 pm  (potluck lunch each week)

Wednesday | 6:00 – 8:00 pm  (potluck dinner each week)

Registration Required | Deadline is 2.2

Recent discoveries in neuroscience suggest that emotion plays a much more central role to human motivation and perception than has been previously thought. Roots of Change groups will explore a powerful theory of how these dynamics of human consciousness operate through an experiential process of group interaction allowing you to live with greater freedom, engage in more fulfilling relationships, reach your goals, and expand your spiritual life. There is no fee, but preregistration is required. Past participants who “paid it forward” through donations make this experience available for anyone interested. For more information about upcoming groups or to register, contact Marianne Wilson (mwilson@myfumc.org) at 817/339-5071.

2.2 – 2.23 PREPARING FOR MARRIAGE

Sundays | 9:00 – 10:30 am | Foundation Building | 2nd Floor

$160 (covers class, materials, & individual session with Charles Gaby)

Registration Required

This workshop helps couples to quickly recognize and develop strategies for approaching issues in their relationship that may limit their satisfaction. In four weeks the participants will develop an understanding of the differences in each other’s personality, and explore powerful means of enhancing the intimacy and satisfaction they desire for their lives together. To register or for more information, contact Marianne Wilson (mwilson@myfumc.org) at 817/339-5071.
