In addition to Nancy we have two other new staff members to announce: Donna Smith and Heather Teems.
With Jennifer Stephens’ move over to the First Street Methodist Mission to assist with operations, Donna Smith is our new receptionist who started in December, so you may have already seen her smiling face in the Main Office. “I was told about the position and thought I would be a good fit,” she recalls. “I love helping others.” Her favorite part of the job so far? “Everything!” she exclaims. Lisa Helm, Director of Welcoming Ministries agrees that Donna’s personality is a perfect fit for the job. And, in addition to serving as First Church receptionist on weekdays, you’ll see Donna’s smiling face in the Welcome Center each Sunday as she meets, greets, and welcomes our members, visitors, and guests. “Donna is awesome at this,” Lisa adds “she just lights up when she greets people. She just loves getting to meet and greet everyone. She’s one of those people that from the minute you meet her, she’s your friend. She is the perfect person for this job in our church.” Donna grew up in Fort Worth and graduated from Poly High School. She is mother of three young adults and six beautiful grandbabies — with one more on the way! In her spare time Donna enjoys painting and other household decorating projects, volunteering at the mission, and helping friends.
And although we are sad to say goodbye to Elizabeth Marshall as our Event Coordinator for Children’s Ministries (and congratulate her as the new full time Director of Children’s Ministries at Saginaw UMC), we are excited that Heather Teems is here to kick off the new year in her place. Heather attended Texas A&M University where she received her degree in Marketing, and she has previous event coordinating experience through other nonprofits. Heather and her husband were married at FUMCFW 10 years ago and joined shortly after. They have two children, ages 2 and 5, who both go to FUMC Day School. “I’ve been looking for way to get more involved and this is what I felt called to do,” Heather says. “I love the energy — there is always somebody doing a puzzle, playing music, laughing — it’s an encouraging environment full of ideas and positivity that’s really refreshing.” Director of Children’s Ministries Mark Burrows describes Heather as a very warm, funny, and true people person. “She has loads of large event planning experience,” he adds. “Plus, simply having some ‘fresh eyes’ to look at everything we do will help us see new ways we can improve.”
Let’s all give Nancy, Donna, and Heather a big First Church welcome!
