Louisiana Flood Relief

“Flood Buckets” needed immediately in Louisiana — and FUMCFW Youth Ministries is leading our First Church collection and assembly effort!

During the past week, Southern Louisiana has received more than four trillion gallons of rainfall — most of it falling within a span of 48 hours. Because the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) Sager Brown Depot has now depleted its supply of cleaning buckets, UMCOR has issued an urgent request for more.

Our Central Texas Conference (CTC) Disaster Response team was quick to provide all the flood buckets that were already made and stored, along with cleaning kits and school kits. The urgent request now is for help refilling these supplies and making them available to UMCOR as more teams help tackle this immense flood relief and cleanup initiative.

What can we do to help?

  • Look for our Youth wielding donation buckets (cash or check only) on 5th Street this Sunday from 10:30 – 11:00 am and noon – 12:30 pm to help bring attention to our churchwide response.
  • Submit a donation of $50 per bucket at a table near the Welcome Center. While we hope you can sponsor a bucket (or more!), all amounts are welcome.
  • Donate online now!
  • Text your donation! Just text “$50 Louisiana Flood” to 817/241-2327 and it will donate $50 to flood relief. (You must put “Louisiana Flood” after the dollar amount for it to go to flood relief; if you forget this detail your donation will go into the Church’s general operating fund.)

Our Youth Ministries team will purchase the supplies for the buckets with donated funds and pack buckets on Sunday, August 28, for delivery to UMCOR.

If you’d like to know more about CTC Disaster Response or are interested in joining a response team, please contact Rev. Chuck Graff (cgraff@myfumc.org) at 817/339-5065 for more information.
