Beginning this Sunday, we’ll be in a sermon series called Finally Something Real: Jesus for People Who Want More Truth and Less Religion.
This is a series specifically focused on people who identify as “not religious,” “spiritual, but not religious,” or just over the whole darn thing. I want to build bridges with this series — and acknowledge that for most people, leaving religion behind or giving up on it entirely had to do with some negative experience they had.
These are likely the people who experienced, around religion, something either traumatic, disappointing, or insufficient to the problems and struggles of their daily life.
Is there someone in your life who you wish had a better understanding of Jesus? Is there someone who you wish had a stronger spiritual life to help them through these difficult times? Do you need something more to help you cope with the challenges you are now facing?
This series offers an opportunity to build a bridge between people of faith and people who are struggling to make their way in the world without it. I hope you’ll invite someone that you care about to join us in worship this weekend. It just might help them begin to think about Jesus in a whole new way.
